Twelve-years ago today. Semester at Sea Spring 2013 Enrichment Voyage.
While on a field trip to Doñana National Park in Spain we stopped near a wheat field to strech our legs and do some birdwatching. I noticed several bright Red Poppy flowers in the field. I guess that they are a native “weed”.

My father and I spent the day on a field trip to Gibraltar. We took bus to the summit of the Rock of Gibraltar. Our guide cautioned everyone to keep their pockets and daypacks securely closed and to avoid exposing any food, as the wild monkeys can be highly aggressive. Numerous monkeys (Barbary macaques) were encountered along the way and upon reaching the visitor center at the summit.

Girl with Yellow Pants Running into a National Unity of Hope (UNE) Building in San Francisco de Sales, Guatemala. Image captured while riding a bus on a field trip to Pacaya Volcano National Park. The image was processed as monochrome with one color. Her pants really were yellow.

Eleven-years ago today. Backyard springtime nature in New Jersey.
The Dogwood tree was blooming, but the flowers were so far up the tree I needed to use a big telephoto lens to capture this image. Image taken with a Nikon D4 camera and 600 mm f/4 VR lens (ISO 320, 600 mm, f/4, 1/2500 sec). Today, I found another Dogwood tree outside the deer fence with flowers. As before, the flowers were high up in the tree. I’ll try to get an image on my next backyard walkabout.

I am a scientist by training (Eckerd College, BSc; Caltech, Ph.D.). I worked for 27 years as a Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry developing processes to manufacture medicines for human and animal health. I now spend my time as a photographer and world traveler. My interests include the natural world, wildlife, landscapes, sky, and seascapes, travel, and astrophotography. I look for unique ways of viewing the world and presenting my images. I have traveled to over 55 countries in six continents, often on Semester at Sea voyages. While at home in New Jersey, I spend time observing and photographing the plants and animals while expanding a wildflower garden/meadow in the backyard. When the sky is clear, I have telescopes viewing the night sky.
